“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet.” The words of William Shakespeare in Act 2 Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet. So what is in a name? Meaning, a title, a way to identify a person, place, or object.
I go by Jenn, Jenny, or Jennifer depending on who I’m around and how long they have known me. When writing my nickname of Jenn, I use 2 Ns instead of 1. There’s a simple reason for that. I have friends who started doing that online when I mentioned I was Jennifer. It wasn’t long before I decided I liked that way better as it is or at least was less common for a Jennifer to spell Jen as Jenn back then.
Also, I have some former co-workers that know me as Eckertpedia. 1 of those co-workers and I were known for being very knowledgeable in certain areas. He knows vast music and movie information. I could tell you where to find just about anything in our company’s customer service knowledge base, let alone just give you the answer straight up. We were both equated to walking, talking encyclopedias.
What about you? Do you prefer a nickname spelled a certain way because it is less common? Do you have a nickname that was kind-heartedly dropped on you by others? Feel free to share below.
